CTS is an international network of scholars who share a vision of producing and promoting social change in and through tourism research, practice, and education. Adopting a broad definition of ‘criticality’, CTS seeks novel ways of understanding and changing tourism by locating the phenomenon in its wider political, economic, cultural, social, and environmental contexts.

The dreamers behind CTS—Irena Ateljevic, Nigel Morgan, Annette Pritchard, and Candice Harris—aimed to establish a lively and inclusive forum for rigorous and respectful scholarly discussion, and especially one that was welcoming to new and alternative voices. CTS has been sustained over its 20-year history by the leadership of its founders, as well as past network leaders Lynn Minnaert, Senija Causevic, and Ana Maria Munar. Together, they are our inspiration as we carry the movement forward!
